New Beginnings

I made this quilt for Nan Isaacson, for her grandbaby. The RS did a service auction and I put in a baby quilt and she won. I am really sad about the binding. I couldn't decide on what color to use. I thought this one was going to work. I gave it to Lainey and when I got it back it was obvious that is the wrong color of binding for this quilt. Ugh! I'm so sad. I should have use a red or grey. It seriously kills me.

Start Where You Are

The tittle of this quilt is Start Where You Are.  I love the name and first fell in love with it about a year ago. I had a friend that was very dear to me. Her name is Jen. We were nannies at the same time in New York. She is probably one of the most amazing people I have ever come in contact with. Her ability, and special talent, to communicate love to everyone she came in contact made her someone so many people needed. She was a peace maker. A gentle and kind soul. A fair person and very sincere. She also had the most amazing vocabulary. I loved hearing her calm voice and smart, touching words or reading them in letters and notes she would write to me.

Two summers ago her abusive husband filed for devorce. They had 5 children together. I decided I was going to make her and her children each a quilt. Then in Septmber of this year, my friend passed away from a heart attack. I think that Heavenly Father knew she could do more good for her children on the other side. Thinking about it, I decided I was no longer going to make quilts for her kids. It wouldn't have been meaningful to them and they don't need them as their dad is a wealthy doctor. I'm not even sure that he would have allowed them to have them.

This quilt was one I had already finished before my dear friend passed away. Start Where You Are, is a message I wanted her to have. I love her and miss her. I surprise myself by how often I find myself thinking of her. Her life was dear to me. Now her memory is too.

I love this back.
