Every Little Piece Counts

Another scrap quilt! Ahh. My favorite way to quilt. I have a problem with throwing out the teeny tiniest piece of fabric. And before I know it, my sew room is being held hostege by those little cuties.

So it makse me feel so good to be able to use them. They come togeather easy and fast.
And that makes all the difference.
I know that most qulters use their scraps in very creative and organized ways.

But this kind of scrap qulilt helps me to stay sane. And I don't think it looks bad. I quite like it.

Brandie does fun things with the backs of my quilts. The Love Is Kind quilt is her work too. She is awesome. I would never give the time of day for a back.
I just throw the peices together.
Mostly because I am lazy.
But also, I don't care about backs.
I don't ask her to do this either.
She just does it.
Brandie is awesome.

Love Is Kind

This quilt, when I started it many years ago, was intended to be a baby quilt.

But look at her now! All grown up. Where did the time go?
Mostly stuck in a tote.
But now she's out and keeping someone warm.
That's the important part.

I had a hard time finishing this quilt because I ran out of the above white fabric that says "love". And because I didn't run out until it had been years after I bought it. It was no longer being manufatuared when I found out I needed more. Sadly, I couldn't get it anywhere. I was stuck and glum.

Then finally having someone I wanted to give this quilt to. I needed to come to a resolution. Consequently, I was pretty much forced to use what I had on hand. So I found a gold on white tone and just went with it.
I wasn't necessarily happy about that either.
I tried to show you in the photo above but you can't see really it well.
It's fine. It turnd out okay.
Moral of story; If you don't want to be forced into being creative with your fabric combiations than don't wait years to finsh your quilt.

Colton's Sweet 16 Quilt

This quilt turned out all right. The quilt design that I put togaether in my head was quite difrent than the outcome.

Live Like That. Halloween.

Look at all of these lovely stitcheries!
I love them!
 All. of. them.

My sister, Esther, made the art work. She is lovely talented.
(Damon fussy-cut the smiling pumpkin faces. That's why they look so good!)

Damon cut the some of squares, sewed pretty much all of them together and wrote the pattern text. He's a super genius and generous in everything he does. He never hesitates to help me.
Also, I asked him to make little wood ghosts for all my friends this year and he did!
He made around 20 of them.

The dark ones are from the wood of our old deck.

I really like this 👆 one.

The quote is from a man named Steve Garness-Holmes.
Clearly he is a very smart man.
Someone giving the lesson in Relief Society shared his dear words.
That's when I knew I needed them imprinted eternally.

This 👆 one is my fave!

Quilting was done by the ever lovely Lainey Anthony.
Her talent never ends.

Damon's Christmas Quilt

I made this little quilt for my dear Damon. Even though I was making another labor intensive quilt at the same time, it didn't phase me much because of how this quilt was designed to be made. It was intended to be an easy block of the month quilt. So having instructions that only allowed me to focus on one portion of the quilt at a time ultimately was my saving grace.

I really like it and think it is completely splendid.

I hand stitched this above tree a few years ago to give to a friend. When I was done, Damon took one look at it and said we needed to make a quilt with. So I kept it but all it did was gather dust as it became forgotten. I was thrilled when I stumbled upon it and thought it was very fitting to use for the label for this quilt.

The writing on the label reads:
Damon, Embedded in every fiber, thread, and grain,
we match, we rhyme, we fit. I love you!
Clair
And of course, I love Lainey's quilting! Perfect as always.

I came across a blog where I happened to know the author. She was writing about her husband and his wonderfulness to her. I was thinking, as I read, how much the loving things she was describing of him sounded just like my own husband. I truly am so lucky to have Damon. He betters my life in every way. We have a good, fun, happy marriage with very little fighting. We love being with each other, talking to each other. A friend told me once that she didn't know what she was going to talk to her husband about once all her children moved out. I was grateful at that moment for a husband I love to talk to. Something I also love about Damon is that he is never critical of me or tries to make me feel bad in anyway. I feel like over the years of being married, I have became a better person. But not because I had someone hounding or scolding or passive-aggressively telling me to be better. If I'm better at all, it's because I had someone gently holding my hand, lovingly leading me along. Someone like Damon is rare. He is a blessing that my loving Heavenly Father gave to me.
